Lincoln Trekkers is a voluntary weekly lunchtime program designed to encourage students to build endurance and cardiovascular health by running and/or walking. This is not a track or racing program, but a commitment to stay fit. The emphasis is on distance over time, not speed. The program is open to 1st – 5th graders.
When does it start?
The program begins on Thursday, September 17th. 3rd - 5th graders will run/walk during their lunch recess starting at 11:00am. 1st & 2nd graders will run/walk during their lunch recess starting at 11:30am.
The program will continue each Thursday throughout the year, weather permitting.
How does it work?
On Thursdays, parent volunteers will track the number of laps students complete around the perimeter of the school/playground area. Each lap is ¼ mile. Students will earn fun incentives as they log miles and stay fit (e.g., plastic foot token for each 5 miles completed).
Participants need to wear gym shoes. In cold weather they will be required to keep their jackets on. Participation is voluntary and students do not need to participate every week.
How can YOU help?
We are looking for volunteers for both Trekkers shifts: 11:00-11:30 and 11:30-12:00 (or you can do BOTH!!)
Please contact Betsy Kelly (
